Apart from established nuclear physics research institutions and some university laboratories, most customers will require a neutron shielding solution. This could be a concrete bunker laboratory or it could be a more compact wrap-around housing.

Such a shielding housing is practically mandated by radiation safety regulations. In most cases an industrial neutron application system will require a Type Approval certification that confirms low residual radiation emission outside of the shielding housing.

Various shielding technologies are feasible. The engineering (cost) issues vary. A significant task for the neutron generator customer is to solve the shielding requirement; even for a single purchase.
